⚽ INSIGHT OF THE WEEK | PART 2
HOW DOES A GRASSROOTS COACH GET DISCOVERED?
Last week, I raised a question:
Players have agents... but who represents the coach?
The discussion got me thinking even deeper.
Maybe the real problem is not only the absence of coach agents.
Maybe the bigger problem is that many talented coaches across Africa simply dont have a professional pathway to be discovered.
Think about a grassroots coach.
He wakes up early.
He attends coaching courses.
He trains players.
He studies matches.
He prepares sessions.
He travels with his team.
He works with limited equipment.
He develops young players.
And sometimes, he achieves results that nobody outside his local football community ever hears about.
Then one day he asks himself:
"How do I move to the next level?"
Where does he go?
Who sees his work?
Who knows his coaching philosophy?
Who knows what he is capable of?
And most importantly...
How does a club outside his immediate network discover him?
We often say:
"Network. Know people. Put yourself out there."
But should a coaching career depend entirely on who you know?
I dont think so.
Football is becoming more professional.
Therefore, I believe coaches also need professional platforms where their qualifications, experience, philosophy, achievements and actual work can be visible.
Not just a CV sitting on someones phone.
Not just a certificate hanging on a wall.
A professional coaching profile.
And this is where I think platforms like FootballerLife can play an important role.
A coach should be able to say:
"This is who I am."
"This is what I believe in."
"This is how I coach."
"This is what I have achieved."
"This is the type of opportunity I am looking for."
Then clubs, academies, sporting directors and football organisations can begin to understand the coach behind the name.
I believe Africa has many coaches with potential.
The question is...
Are we creating enough pathways for them to be seen?
So today, I want to hear from coaches across Africa:
🇺🇬 Uganda
🇰🇪 Kenya
🇹🇿 Tanzania
🇳🇬 Nigeria
🇬🇭 Ghana
🇿🇦 South Africa
🇿🇲 Zambia
🇷🇼 Rwanda
🇸🇳 Senegal
🇨🇲 Cameroon
...and beyond.
How did you get your last coaching opportunity?
Was it through your qualifications?
Your results?
Your network?
Someone recommending you?
Or simply because somebody happened to see your work?
Lets talk about it.
Because perhaps the future of African football coaching isnt only about producing better coaches...
It is also about creating better pathways for those coaches to be discovered.
