🇹🇭 Thailand is facing a childhood obesity crisis, one we can’t ignore. 🇹🇭
📊 The numbers tell a worrying story:
🔹 Children under 5: Obesity rates have more than doubled, rising from 3.6% to 8.84%.
🔹 School-aged children: Obesity has increased from 8.9% to 13.21%.
🔹 Adolescents: While a slight decrease was recorded, the figure remains above the national target of 11.5%.
💡 Why is this happening?
🚨 Excessive sugar consumption - Thailand is one of the world’s biggest consumers of sugary drinks, and sugar is added to most processed foods.
🚨 Limited access to physical activity. Only 26.2% of Thai children meet the recommended 60 minutes of daily exercise.
🚨 Lack of structured sports opportunities. Over 3.5 million children in underserved communities have no access to organised sports, and over 3 million in rural areas lack organised football programmes.
