The Missing Link in African Sport: Coaches

A coach may be the first person to notice when an athlete is struggling but many are not equipped to know what to look for, how to respond, or where to refer. A drop in performance. Withdrawal. Irritability. Absence. Loss of confidence.

These can be signals not simply “bad attitude.”

Africa needs stronger coach-to-care referral pathways that connect grassroots clubs, academies and schools to appropriate mental health support. Coaches dont need to be psychologists. They need the skills and systems to know when and where to act.

That is a critical gap in building safer, healthier sport hence reduce youth mental health crisis.

Balotelli arrived on this day back in 2010! He was one of my favorite players. Did you enjoy watching him play?

Cameroon didn’t originally qualify for WAFCON 2026.

CAF expanded the tournament from 12 to 16 teams and reinstated Cameroon, alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Mali and Egypt based on FIFA rankings.

Now they’re in the final 🤯🇨🇲
