The car ride home is one of the WORST times in a child’s life participating in sports. The research shows that 98% of parents BERATE their children in the car on the way home.
As you can probably imagine. Your child HATES this. Now if my child decided not to give 100% effort. I would be EXTREMELY PISSED. But that’s the only thing I would comment on.
If they make mistakes in the game. And they will because their human believe it or not. And remember two things even Messi makes mistakes and a lot on the field. As well, your child while playing, can only see a TUNNEL VISION view of the field. What’s directly in front of them. .
But you as a parent get to SEE the ENTIRE field . So of course, you get the benefit of potentially being 3 moves ahead. But guess what?
You don’t play from the sideline. So I’m advocating for you to engage your child a different way. When you get in the car, don’t start going off. ASK these 4 questions and WHY after each question.
Then you can build a conversation and get them to want to talk with you. And if you have been berating about mistakes for a long-time don’t anticipate instant change.
Think outside the box.
