MEET SAHARA FC ⚽🌷
From Mathare, a group of young girls are showing up every week with one thing in common: they love to play.
We started Sahara FC because we believe that girls deserve the opportunity to discover their talent, develop their skills, and pursue their passion for sport.
For many girls, however, that opportunity is not always easy to find. Barriers such as limited support and encouragement, lack of safe and accessible training spaces, the need for greater support as girls navigate puberty and the changes that come with it , inadequate sporting equipment, and harassment on the field can make it difficult for girls to participate and stay in sport.
We believe these barriers should not determine how far a girl can go.
That is why we provide free football training in a safe and supportive environment where girls can learn, build confidence, have fun, and develop their skills. We are also creating opportunities for them to participate in friendlies and tournaments, connect with other teams, and experience the joy and confidence that comes from competing.
But Sahara FC is about more than football.
It is about creating opportunities for girls to be seen.
There is so much talent that may never be discovered simply because a girl was never given the chance to play, train, compete, or showcase what she can do. Through Sahara FC, we hope to open that door for more girls and contribute to greater participation of girls in football and sport.
We love seeing these girls step onto the pitch, challenge themselves, support one another, and grow. Every friendly and tournament is also an opportunity to meet people who share our belief that girls belong in sport and deserve to be supported in it.
We dream of a future where more girls are on the pitch, where women’s football is celebrated and valued, and where the resilience and determination of women in sport are recognised.
And beyond the pitch, we want to see these girls grow into confident young women who are ready to take up leadership roles and create opportunities for others.
We are only at the beginning, but we believe that every journey starts with a single step.
She plays.
