๐น๐ญ Thailand is facing a childhood obesity crisis, one we canโt ignore. ๐น๐ญ
๐ The numbers tell a worrying story:
๐น Children under 5: Obesity rates have more than doubled, rising from 3.6% to 8.84%.
๐น School-aged children: Obesity has increased from 8.9% to 13.21%.
๐น Adolescents: While a slight decrease was recorded, the figure remains above the national target of 11.5%.
๐ก Why is this happening?
๐จ Excessive sugar consumption - Thailand is one of the worldโs biggest consumers of sugary drinks, and sugar is added to most processed foods.
๐จ Limited access to physical activity. Only 26.2% of Thai children meet the recommended 60 minutes of daily exercise.
๐จ Lack of structured sports opportunities. Over 3.5 million children in underserved communities have no access to organised sports, and over 3 million in rural areas lack organised football programmes.
