HOW CAN GRASSROOTS COACHES BE DISCOVERED?
In Episode 1, I asked:
Who represents the coach?
In Episode 2, we asked:
How does a grassroots coach get discovered?
Today, lets take it one step further.
If nobody is coming to look for you... how do you make yourself visible?
Because lets be honest.
Being a good coach is important.
But in todays football environment, being invisible can make it difficult for people to know what you can do.
So, fellow coaches, I believe we need to start treating ourselves like professionals.
1️⃣ BUILD YOUR COACHING PROFILE
Dont just have a CV.
Have a coaching identity.
Who are you as a coach?
What is your philosophy?
What formations do you use?
What type of players do you develop?
What are your strengths?
What have you achieved?
If someone asks, "Tell me about yourself as a coach," you should have a clear answer.
2️⃣ DOCUMENT YOUR WORK
Your training sessions matter.
Your match preparation matters.
Your tactical ideas matter.
Your player-development work matters.
Take photographs.
Record training clips.
Save match analysis.
Document your achievements.
Dont just say you can coach. Show people how you coach.
3️⃣ USE FOOTBALL NETWORKS
A coach should not only network when looking for a job.
Build relationships continuously.
Talk to coaches.
Connect with academies.
Engage sporting directors.
Learn from coaches in other countries.
Share ideas.
Exchange sessions.
Football is a network—and sometimes your next opportunity starts with a conversation today.
4️⃣ LET YOUR WORK SPEAK
Dont chase visibility just for the sake of visibility.
Create value.
Share a tactical idea.
Explain a training exercise.
Discuss a football problem.
Show how you solved a challenge with your team.
When people consistently see how you think about football...
they begin to understand the coach behind the name.
5️⃣ BE WHERE FOOTBALL PEOPLE ARE
Sometimes opportunities are not hidden.
We are simply not present where the conversations are happening.
Platforms such as FootballerLife can give coaches an opportunity to connect, share knowledge and build relationships beyond their immediate environment.
Your local football community may know you...
But what about a coach in Kenya?
A sporting director in Ghana?
An academy in Tanzania?
A club in Rwanda?
Can they find you?
Thats the question.
6️⃣ BUILD YOUR REPUTATION BEFORE YOU NEED THE OPPORTUNITY
Dont wait until you are unemployed to start telling people that you are a coach.
Build your professional identity now.
Let people gradually learn:
This is how this coach thinks.
This is how this coach works.
This is what this coach believes in.
Then when an opportunity comes...
You are not introducing yourself from zero.
People already know your work.
So, fellow grassroots coaches...
Maybe being discovered isnt about waiting for somebody to knock on your door.
Maybe we also have to build a door that people can actually find.
Your coaching profile.
Your work.
Your network.
Your knowledge.
Your reputation.
Your story.
Put them where football people can see them.
Because somewhere in Africa...
there may be a club looking for a coach like you.
